I wish I had known about this book before I started fishing for pike with a fly rod, because it would have saved me a great deal of sweat, tears, and occasionally, blood.

While the work covers muskellunge and tiger muskie, the meat of the text centres on “northern” pike. Chapters cover seasonal pike fishing, tackle, fly patterns and pike lies. The chapters on the seasonal behaviour of pike make fascinating reading and added enormously to my understanding of the subject. I can confirm from personal experiment that the lessons apply just as well on this side of the pond as they do on the other. If you are thinking of trying to catch a pike on a fly, make sure you read this book first.
