Joyride is an interesting attempt to meld carp fishing with the great American road novel; a strange and unlikely combination that almost succeeds in places. There isn’t much light fishing fiction about in paperback, so if you like the idea of Josh travelling across the continent chasing carp and waiting for his visa to run out, this one is for you. But Easy Rider it is not. Petley fans should will not be disappointed, everyone else will be completely mystified.
