This is a collection of 31 stories which demonstrate the breadth of BB’s writing to perfection. The first section showcases his writing about his childhood (which was quite extraordinary, if you read about him in Angling Giants), including an excerpt from his classic tale The Little Grey Men, which won him the Carnegie Medal in 1942. This is followed by sections containing roughly half a dozen each of his fishing and shooting stories, and concluded with a rather longer section of his general countryside writings. The only bad news for fishermen is that less than a quarter of the compendium is about angling, but his other writing makes up for it and if you haven’t read any BB before, you are in for a real treat.
